SVG Framed Text Mouse Pad Example
June 21, 2008
Here's an image of a project I worked on to explore how text can be flowed around framed areas. The link at the bottom of the entry leads to an image created with Inkscape using the "text to frame" feature. The text in the image is the actual SVG source of the shiny glass blob positioned in the center. I think it would make a great mouse pad so I rounded the corners and put the SVG logo at the bottom. If I find a way to cheaply make a mouse pad out of it, I'll post a picture.
The image of the framed text example is here.

Inkscape 0.46 Released (MS Windows version available)
April 1, 2008
The MS Windows 0.46 version of Inkscape was available today but it's not an April Fools joke. The source code was released back on the 24th of March with the Windows executable version still needing some fixes and promised at a later date. So far it seems to be more stable with several new features and effects like "Tweak objects" and generating 3D Boxes.
The main page still has a link to version 0.45.1 but if you scroll down to the Sourceforge Download link then you can get the MS Windows X86 version from there.
The home page of Inkscape is www.Inkscape.org .

SVG as a Presentation Layer
March 19, 2008
While looking at a mid 2007 Mozilla presentation on the state of JavaScript. I found an intriguing SVG demo that uses the technology as a presentation layer similar to the surface interaction table that was hyped last year. I'm encouraged by the results of this short demo and hope we will get to see more of this as browser support for SVG matures.
Here is a link to the SVG photo lightbox demo.

Inkscape Glass Effect Kit
Febuary 24, 2008
I've created an instructional kit for adding a glass-like reflection to objects in Inkscape. The glass "blob" image in this log entry was created using the kit. Click on the glass blob to download the PNG version of the SVG file. This will let you see the document without having to load it up in Inkscape.
Here's the link to the SVG file InkscapeGlassKit.svg.
Right click on the link and save it to a file. Remember that it's intended to be viewed in Inkscape. In order to allow search engines to look inside the text of the file, I choose not to render the text as paths. Therefore, the text of the document isn't viewable in Firefox or Opera. (Future versions of these browsers will probably support SVG V1.2 text features.)

Valentines Heart Emblem
Febuary 9, 2008
Valentine's day is this week so I created a simple heart shaped emblem for downloading. This one was created using two Bézier curves. If you look at the svg file you'll notice that most of the size is taken up with gradients and overhead declarations while the actual heart shape is just a couple of lines! Click on the heart to download the SVG file.

Welcome

Just getting the site started. The forum is rough but working. The "Forums" link on the navigation bar takes you there. The forum style and colors will change as I get more familiar with the software.
